Leading research and advisory company Gartner predicts that low-code platforms will drive around 65 per cent of all app development functions by 2024 and about 66 per cent will use at least four low-code platforms in their business activities. However, what exactly are low-code platforms and why do enterprises need to leverage them at the earliest? We, at WGD Analytics, are here to shed light on the what’s and why’s.
Unlike the traditional methods of programming, low-code platforms employ visual techniques for building an application. With this, even non-coders can develop web, desktop or mobile applications within a few weeks or even days.
As organisations rely heavily on data for their day-to-day operations, low-code is slowly making inroads into the data analytics world as well. In fact, analytics companies are increasingly adopting it to develop AI and ML-backed solutions and services. The acquisition of Appsheet, a low-code mobile application platform, by Google, is an example of the increasing prominence of this approach. The multinational tech company said that by acquiring Appsheet, it aims to enable millions of people to easily create and extend applications without necessarily acquiring any professional coding skills.
In the HR departments of many organisations, low-code platforms have eliminated the need of cumbersome spreadsheets. Whether it is for new recruitments or tracking status of current employees, analytical tools developed through the low-code approach, have been proving extremely beneficial for streamlining HR processes.
Pennsylvania-based Qlik is one such company that has been leveraging low-code tools for its HR department. Dan Le Masurier, director of IT service delivery for the company, said that this has led to around 35 per cent time savings for HR staff in answering employee questions and resolving issues.
With such tools, recruiting professionals, who have minimum technical proficiency, can create applications quickly and make changes in them without having to wait for IT professionals or hire external consultants or vendors.
